The traditional Maekake is a thing of beauty. Based on Japanese principles of simplicity, function, and form, our Maekake-style apron tries to capture the essence of what has made these aprons popular for hundreds of years.
Our Maekake Apron is made with a cotton that has been woven and hand-dyed in a small Hong Kong workshop. The front is dyed with indigo, while the lining is dyed with persimmon. The raw, fringed edge has a line of stitching to prevent excess fraying). Each pocket is made from Japanese patterned cotton scraps, to give these a little extra character! The cotton waist band can be tied in the front, back, or side of the body, though it's traditionally tied in the front. Stylish for all genders, and works well for cooking and most handcrafts.
